More Northeastern University Adjuncts Overwhlemingly Vote For SEIU Representation

August 11, 2014

By a vote of 37-1, adjuncts who teach pre-college (or non-college) courses at Northeastern University voted to join 1,000 other adjuncts in the existing SEIU bargaining. Attorneys Patrick Bryant and David Rome represented SEIU and its Adjunct Action effort in this campaign.

Last May, a strong majority of Northeastern adjuncts who teach credit-bearing courses previously voted to be represented by SEIU, forming the largest private-sector adjunct bargaining unit in the Greater Boston area. Northeastern represents the third campus where adjuncts have voted to have SEIU help them improve wages and working conditions - following victories at Tufts and Lesley Universities.

The election this week involved an effort to expand the existing Northeastern adjunct bargaining unit to include adjuncts who teach pre-matriculation courses that help students transition or qualify for college, and certain other courses that do not count toward a degree. The vote was practically unanimous.
